For any website, meta tagging is must…you never know what the search engine crawler is looking for.
Try to get as many as external links from website with high page rank.
advertise in Blogs / forums /discussion rooms
e-mailers to relevant customers

Search engine can read HTML and XHTML. They have to crawler the HTML code of your web site to find the relevant content. If your HTML code contains errors, search engines might not be able to find everything on the page.

SEO is the best way to drive traffic. It may take a lot from you but it helps a lot when you have a high rank in search engines.

You could also use USFreeads as a way to increase your google ranking (although, in order to post links, you have to sign up for a Gold Membership, which costs 10 $ per year). I mention USFreeads, because the ads usually rank very good in google and posting 25 articles (the maximum number of ads with the gold membership) there, each with a link to your site…a lot of effort, but if you manage to pull this off it will definitely increase your google ranking.
(also, don’t forget to make a Squidoo lense about your website and link to it from some of your USFreeads-ads.)
