the prerequisite is quality contents because if people just come and bounce, google will punish you by sending you in the deep depths of results. Stats show that 1 in 100 visitors who are genuinely interested in the contents of your blog click on ads.
Here are few things you can do - to leave smart replays to others blogs, post link to your blog wherever you go on-line (but not spam) and keep writing quality .. you can use facebook for spreading news for your blog - actually that is what my blog is about and the answer is based on my experience.

Back links are essential for getting exposure for your blog. The more quality back links you have the higher your site will rank in search engines. The higher the rank, the more eyes that see it!
